Multiple Methods for Fuller, Younger-Looking Lips!
Full, attractive lips never go out of style. Thanks to several options for lip enhancement available in the medical aesthetics industry today, virtually anyone can obtain those sought-after plump, youthful-looking lips. At Atlanta Face & Body, we offer several proven procedures to effectively plump your lips to meet your individual aesthetic desires and give you an ensuing confidence boost that’ll have you puckering with pride.
But which procedure should you consider? Not everyone wants the same set of lips, so it’s important to consult with an experienced provider to weigh all the options and precisely determine which one will best meet your individual goals. Double board-certified plastic surgeon Elizabeth Whitaker, M.D., F.A.C.S., and her staff at Atlanta Face & Body have the expertise to guide you on you on your beautiful journey to the lips of your dreams. The first step is exploring the lip-enhancing options available to our patients.
Lip Filler
Lip fillers are the most popular means to give lips a pleasingly plump effect. Most fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. The magic behind hyaluronic acid is its ability to draw and hold much more than its weight in water, which results in both fullness and hydration when injected into the lips.
An initial treatment with filler can help you determine the amount of lip augmentation you desire, whether subtle definition or a slightly more dramatic increase in volume. If you want greater fullness after your first treatment, more filler can be added at any time. Little to no downtime is needed after injections, and the lip-loving effects of most fillers generally last about 6 to 12 months.
Fat Transfer
Fat transfer is another popular treatment option that can provide sought-after results in lip augmentation. This minimally invasive procedure utilizes fat cells harvested and processed from a donor area of your body (typically the stomach, thighs, or buttocks) and injected into the lips. Since the fat cells are from your own body, there is very little risk of allergic reaction, though some temporary swelling and tenderness following treatment are common.
The procedure itself is typically performed in less than an hour. Several days of downtime may be needed depending on the extent of fat harvested. Once healed, lips look and feel natural, and the results can last for several years.
Surgical Implant
If you’ve had a temporary lip enhancement procedure but yearn for a more permanent solution, then a surgical implant may be an option for you. This procedure offers permanent lip augmentation by way of plastic implants to plump the lips to the desired effect. Two types of implants most often used are silicone and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene.
Lip implant surgery is typically performed using local anesthesia, and implants are inserted through tiny incisions hidden in the corners of the mouth. When performed by a skilled plastic surgeon, like Dr. Elizabeth, surgery generally takes about half an hour and scars are virtually undetectable. Most patients only need one to three days of recovery time before resuming their normal activities.
Lip Flip
If you aren’t ready for fillers, fat transfers, or surgical implants (but you still desire your own degree of a lip transformation), then a lip flip may be just what you’ve been searching for. The lip flip is a simple in-office treatment that involves the injection of neurotoxins, such as Xeomin® or Botox®, in strategic places directly above your upper lip and around the corners of your mouth. The injections temporarily relax the muscles at the injection site, causing your upper lip to slightly “flip” upward and outward, providing a fuller appearance.
The whole procedure only takes about 10 to 20 minutes and requires no downtime. The lip flip is typically a great option for people who want a more subtle and temporary refreshed look for their lips. By comparison, a lip flip generally lasts for about 8 to 12 weeks, while fillers last from 6 to 12 months. For that reason, a lip flip is a popular choice for people preparing for an upcoming social event, such as a wedding or a reunion.
Am I candidate for lip augmentation in Atlanta?
Lip augmentation is usually a great option for people in generally good health who wish to improve the look of their lips, either with a subtle change, a bold statement, or anything in between. It can be a good option for people in their 20s and 30s who want to address genetically thin lips, for people in their 40s who may feel self-conscience about the formation of “smoker’s” lines, or for people in their 50s and older who are experiencing volume loss that comes naturally with age. We’ll be happy to go over the details of each option and help you decide which may be right for you.
You won’t find any overdone lips at Atlanta Face & Body.
Although many people desire fuller, shapelier lips, they’re often hesitant because they’ve observed someone with obviously overfilled lips at some point. This is simply not the case at Atlanta Face & Body. Dr. Elizabeth is a firm believer that “less can be more” in this particular area of the face. If you choose to transform your lips with any of the methods listed here, know that Dr. Elizabeth continually strives for beautiful, natural-looking results for all her patients.
