8 Things to Know about Ultherapy

Ultherapy is a new way of rejuvenating the body and giving a younger appearance. This procedure may have flown under the radar for many. It’s now gone mainstream. It is worthwhile to consider if going under the scalpel or receiving injections aren’t one’s cup of tea.

1. There can be some pain/discomfort

The pain threshold for each person is different. Most that have undergone the treatment claim to pain and discomfort during the procedure. The pain spikes when the device is active. Individuals report feeling tingling and sharp pains in the treated areas. The face will twitch but the pain subsides when the device is removed from the area. It’s common to receive local anesthesia to mitigate the pain during the procedure.

2. There is a somewhat significant financial investment

The costs depend on what’s treated. Increase the surface area and increase the amount charged — it will also depend on the provider. Most individuals stick to having the face done since this is the most visible area and the one that will show best results.Costs fall into the $2,000 – $4,000 range for the full face, though, and can be paid through financial options.

3. There may be some swelling for a period of time after the procedure

Swelling is common to experience up to two weeks after the procedure. Yet, many bounce back after a few days. Some experience longer-than-usual swelling. These are outliers and aren’t representative of the whole. If the swelling is present (and persists) there are a few ways to help:
  • Applying ice packs to the area
  • Taking an antihistamine
Call the practice and explain the swelling situation if it persists beyond 72 hours if the above help does not show promise.

4. Some patients experience short term, mild side effects

Side effects are rare with Ultherapy and are low-to-mild if they do appear. These side effects are usually reported as a sense of numbness in the treated areas that may last for a few days. The numbness may create problems with motor functions in the area but they will subside.Swelling (as noted above) and bruising are common but are expected.Long-term side effect concerns such as hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation have been discussed. Yet, these don’t seem to be present in the months and years after the procedure according to most practitioners. The risk of nerve injury is also non-existent when the procedure is done professionally.

5. Results take time but are longer term

Full results are not visible after the procedure unlike others such as Botox. Results vary depending on the size of the procedure and health of the individual. The average falls into the 2-3 month period while some may need to wait around 6 months to see the final outcome.A before & after set of photos is taken to see results. The first few days there is tenderness and not much to see. A few weeks will pass and the skin will begin to soften and give a younger appearance. Within a couple of months, the face will tighten further. By its end, wrinkles and sags will be a thing of the past.

6. It’s not for everyone

It’s at the discretion of the individual to decide whether this procedure is right for them. The medical professional will have their say as well.Generally, younger individuals (in their late-30’s and mid-40’s) haven’t quite reached the age where skin laxity is pronounced. The body continues to age and hasn’t quite settled into its “aged” look. The procedure is better suited for those with pronounced skin elasticity and wrinkles (ages 50+) but again… it’s up to the patient. If they feel the need to do the procedure then they’re welcome to move forward with it.

7. Treatment is often a one-time thing

The nice thing about this procedure is that it’s usually a one-time thing meaning the results will last for many years after a single visit. Some individuals may opt for a secondary procedure after waiting the appropriate amount of time. Yet, it’s not necessary since results are often very positive and effective on the first go around.

8. Aftercare is a breeze

Because there isn’t much one has to do after the procedure is done. The individual goes about their normal day and routine without the need to apply creams and other products to the treated areas.—
